Stacey Esslinger makes functional slab-built porcelain pottery in her home studio in Corning, New York. By combining her love of ceramics and textile arts she creates whimsical and detailed works of art. She imprints the clay with textured antique and vintage fabrics then “sews with the slabs”. She cuts out a pattern, joins the seams, adds darts, buttons, and zippers. The finished piece creates a routine of luxury, combining traditionally extravagant items like embroidery and lace with functional hand-built pottery.
